Phil Hesketh has grown to become one of the top CrossFit athletes in the world.

He is part of a vanguard of elite British competitors to have made it to the CrossFit Games, along with Steven Fawcett and Sam Briggs.

Since taking up CrossFit aged 21, the former rugby player’s rise through the sport has been meteoric.

The 25-year-old competed in the team event at the European Regionals in his first full season, before securing a top 14 finish in the individuals the following year.

Phil finished joint first in the Asia Regionals in 2014, but missed out on a spot at the CrossFit Games on countback.

However he convincingly clinched a top 5 finish in the highly-competitive Meridian Regional in 2015 to seal his place at the Games – earning a respectable top 30 finish in his debut year.

A strong and powerful athlete, Phil has a 240kg deadlift, a 220kg squat and an impressive 325lb clean and jerk.

Phil, who also won The Athlete Games in 2015, trains and coaches at Inner Fight CrossFit in Dubai.

Making it to the 2015 CrossFit Games and placing 29th.

I have always been strong since I started CrossFit, especially in squat movements. But I would say my biggest strength is the experience I have gained over the last four years of competing. It is a skill in itself to know how to prepare and look after your body during competition, both physically and mentally.

To go to the Games for the next three to four years - and to beat Steven Fawcett!

In past year I have really changed my diet with the help of Buff Box. I had so much extra strength and energy just from eating the right foods. It made me realise how much better I could be by paying more attention to the little details, not just the training.

I would say my favourite movements are snatch and clean. I like lifting heavy stuff.

I train because I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to go to the CrossFit Games and place on the podium. This requires a lot of commitment and dedication to the training and lifestyle.
